How’s the air suspension on the Model X?

I've been thinking about getting a 2018 Model X, but I'm a bit worried about the air suspension. My wife had a Mercedes GLS before, and after about 4 years, one of the air shocks blew out.

So how reliable is the air suspension on the Model X? Is there any way to tell if it’s leaking? And if something goes seriously wrong, can we swap it out for a regular suspension system that doesn’t adjust height?

Interestingly, I use this same model, the 2018 Model X's air suspension is generally reliable, but leaks can happen. If needed, you can swap it for a regular suspension, though this may require modifications.

The Model X's air suspension can be hit or miss, so keep an eye out for sagging or hissing sounds for leaks. If it fails, you can definitely swap it for a regular suspension.

I’ve read about the air suspension lasting well on Model X compared to some other brands, but it’s not bulletproof. A common DIY test is to check for leaks by setting it to a high ride height, leaving it parked overnight, and seeing if one corner drops lower. If you ever have to replace a compressor or an air strut, there are aftermarket parts that are more affordable than Tesla’s. I’ve never seen anyone swap it out for a standard system, but it’s an interesting idea!

Tesla's made air suspension pretty reliable, and most Model X owners are happy with it. But like anything, it can still break. You can use a special tool to check it or ask a Tesla tech. If you're worried about the cost of repairs, get an extended warranty.
