I’m having an issue with the power steering on my 2020 Tesla Model X, it’s failed for the second time. The first time, it was fixed, but now I’m being told the entire steering rack needs to be replaced. To make matters worse, the failure was preceded by a warning that the lane change control feature wasn’t available.

What could be causing the power steering to fail twice, and is replacing the steering rack the only solution? It’s looking like a seriously expensive fix, and I’d love to hear if anyone has had a similar issue or insight into what might be going on.

Did you have any updates recently? Sometimes, OTA soft updates can mess things up. I remember I got an update a while ago and because of it, the electronic power steering system started to misinterpret road conditions. The car was acting like crazy.
