Low Speed Motor Noise on 2020 Model X

I’ve got a 2020 Model X LRP, and I’ve been dealing with this strange noise from the motor when driving at low speeds, around 18-23 MPH. It’s hard to describe, but it’s a deep, almost “mother ship” kind of sound that’s really noticeable. The noise gets quieter at other speeds, but it’s still there and pretty annoying, especially when I’m in stop-and-go traffic around 20 MPH.

I took it to the service center, and the technician admitted they’re aware of the issue and that it’s not normal. They don’t know the root cause yet and said it would require replacing some components to troubleshoot. They recommend leaving the car with them. it sounds like this might turn into a big (and expensive) job.

I’m curious, has anyone else experienced this issue? If so, did you find a solution? I’d love any ideas or recommendations before I decide .

You seem to have a damaged tire. Did they tell you if that is possible issue? with mine, the acoustic foam separated from the tire. At highway speeds, I experienced sporadic severe steering wheel shake, but not this noise.

This noise may have the same underlying cause because it seems to get louder as you go faster. Try swapping out each wheel one at a time with the spare tyre if you have one, and see if that stops the noise.

You might have your tires rotated and balanced. If the vibration persists after the rotation, it's likely due to an unbalanced or damaged tire. Balancing the tires might resolve the issue, or you might need to replace a faulty tire.

If the noise increases with the speed, then yes, you have a tire that's not ok. Do you have a spare one? Replace the tires one by one with the spare one, and see if the noise goes off. This way, you will identify "black-tire", too. gl!
