So my car's USB ports are giving me some serious grief. I cleaned inside earlier today and somehow water sneaked into the USB slot – cue the car horn going berserk until I turned everything off and let it dry. Pretty sure that's a short circuit from the water, huh?

And last weekend, my girlfriend plugs her USB charger into the front console, and bam! The whole car shuts down while we're driving. Does this mean I gotta swap out the entire USB console? What's your take on this?

Your car's USB connection should not be causing it to shut down. It sounds like you're experiencing random MCU shutdowns, which can happen.

Sounds like you had quite the adventure with those USB ports, water in the slot can definitely cause a short circuit, which might explain the horn going off. It is odd that the car shut down when a charger was plugged in but it might not mean you need to swap out the whole console, but checking the horn button could help too. Also, if your MCU is shutting down randomly, that might just be a quirk of the entertainment system. What year is your car? Do you know if it's MCU1 or MCU2?

Lol, it sounds like your USB ports are throwing a wild party! Water in the slot? Classic case of "oops, my bad!" And shutting down the whole car? Talk about a dramatic exit! You might need to swap out that USB console, but let’s hope it doesn’t come with a side of drama.
